Alpe d’Huez snow report 01/02/2013

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Alpe d’Huez

There is 255cm of snow at the top of the Alpe d’Huez ski area with 156cm in resort. There was 30cm that fell on Sunday/Monday with more due this weekend.

129km of pistes are open in Alpe d’Huez and 55 of the 64 ski lifts are open.

A foot of snow is forecast over the weekend and temperatures well below zero.

This has been a very warm week with some good sunny days – hot enough for us to have an outdoor beach party yesterday. Unfortunately this does mean that any precipitation at resort level has been rather wetter than we would have preferred. Nonetheless, it has been snowing on the higher slopes and there is more than enough of a base coat on the lower ones to absorb a few light showers with little damage to the skiing conditions. The forecast of snow and cold weather over the weekend also means that we should get some exceedingly good conditions at the beginning of next week.

Skidance and Delirious, a French ‘combat dance’ troupe, will be performing and delivering workshops at the Palais du Sport throughout the next week.

The resort team is negotiating with Smithy’s staff to open Laura’s Burger Kitchen on Thursdays as well as Mondays so that we have something to tuck into after a good night’s après.
