A Week in Obergurgl

Situated at the top of the valley the quaint, traditional resort of Obergurgl can’t be beaten.  With guaranteed snow due to its high altitude and friendly, welcoming locals, it’s the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy some peace and tranquillity.

Day 1

An afternoon flight means you arrive to resort just in time for your delicious 4 course evening meal.  You will also have the time to start to get to know your chalet team for the week that will make sure that you have everything you need to make your holiday perfect. Take the time to enjoy some great wine over dinner and get to know the other guests before retiring to the lounge for a nightcap.

Day 2

Ski shop opens early, meaning that you can hit the slopes when they first open and start exploring the beautiful valley.  Our friendly Reps run Ski hosting to introduce you to the Hochgurgl area with a relaxed, easy paced day on the wide, gentle blue runs.  Stop for the famous ‘Riml Burger’ at lunch and enjoy the sunshine on the restaurant terrace, overlooking the whole valley.

Day 3

The second day of ski hosting picks up the pace a little. You can explore the Obergurgl area on the blues and red runs, perfect to get to know the area further. After a good home cooked dinner in the chalet, the Ski Show is not to be missed.  At the top of the Festkogl gondola you can enjoy a Gluhwein (or two!) whilst watching the elite skiers wow you with their skiing, jumps and tricks before finishing with a spectacular firework display to end the evening.

Day 4

As its staff day off, the best way to finish your day’s skiing is a visit to the Nederhutte for some traditional Austrian Aprés Ski.  Make sure to arrive by 3.30pm to get a table so that you can really get involved with the live family band playing a mix of traditional Austrian après, classic rock and recent pop.  They welcome you to jump up and dance on the tables; obviously made a little easier after a few traditional pear schnapps!   The food here is great and good value if you want to stay to the end, but if not, take a ride down on the free skidoo and try the Hexenkuchl.  This is a great restaurant that will cater for your group whether you fancy something a little bit authentic or something a little closer to home.

Day 5

If you’re looking for a quieter day to unwind and relax, why not head to the Crystal Hotel to use their spa, sauna and pool facilities (although beware it is a traditional Austrian sauna….clothing is optional!).  Want a little more excitement?  Head over to the Hochgurglbahn to pick up your wooden toboggan and have a couple of runs down the red toboggan run using only your feet to steer and brake!  Before dinner it’s only a short walk up to the ice rink for a twirl or the traditional Austrian Bowling alley.

Day 6

Join our reps again for a “Ski Away Day” to Solden where they’ll make sure you have a ski filled day and see as much of the resort as possible.  With a glacier up to 3,250m, 145km of piste and a funpark, there’s plenty to keep everybody busy for the day and with over 30 huts on the mountain there’s always somewhere to stop for a hot chocolate to warm up on those snowy days.

Day 7

For your last day head to the Top Mountain Star hut in Hochgurgl in the morning for the breathtaking panoramic views over the Dolomites and across to Italy.  A great spot for lunch is the Schonweishutte which you can only access by trekking or hitching a lift from a skidoo.  For the adventurous it’s a great off piste ride down from here to push you to your limits.  After dinner try the quirky barrel bar for a beer, where you can win free Schnapps in their nail game, to give that perfect end to your perfect holiday.
