Adult Ski Categories
Blue - The Blue category of ski is our ‘standard’ ski. This is generally a carving ski, however, traditional skis are also available in this category. The Blue ski is usually at least one season old, and is suitable for beginner skiers, and early intermediates.
Red – The Red category is a superior carving ski. This ski is usually only one season old or new this winter and is suitable for all keen intermediate skiers.
Black – The Black category is normally the highest grade of ski available to hire. These are carving skis, generally this season's new models and are suitable for intermediate/advanced skiers.
Ski Categories for Children
Children's White – The White category is generally for children aged 3-5 years inclusive and is a standard quality ski.
Children's Red and Black – Where resorts offer 2 grades of ski for children, these 'Red' (standard) and 'Black' (superior) but will not necessarily fit the same criteria as for adults.
FREE helmets for children in many resorts when equipment is pre-booked.
Snowboard Categories
ADULT Most resorts offer just two categories of snowboad, Red or Black. The Red category is a standard snowboard, suitable for all levels of boarder, and the Black category is for the more advanced and confident boarder.
CHILDREN In most resorts there is one category of snowboard available Red - a standard snowboard suitable for all levels.
Tuition Levels for Ski and Snowboard Classes
To enable the ski-schools to have an idea of how many guests require lessons at each level before they arrive, we offer as a guide our own grading system. When pre-booking your ski-school classes, please advise our Reservations Team of your ability level from the descriptions below.
Beginner – Never skied or boarded.
Level 1 – Skied/boarded for 1 or 2 weeks.
Level 2 – Easy on blues, less confident on reds.
Level 3 – Ski parallel or board all pistes, need to improve confidence and technique on black runs and off piste.
Children’s tuition – prices for standard group lessons for children are included in the resort specific panels on the following pages. Please enquire at time of booking for details of other children’s ski or board classes which may be available and our Reservations Team will be happy to discuss the various options with you.
Teenagers – Many resorts now offer dedicated ski or board classes for teenagers during the peak holiday weeks in addition to the standard children’s group lessons. Our reservations team have the details and will be delighted to help you book an appropriate class.
We strongly advise pre-booking both adult and children’s tuition to guarantee your places are reserved, especially for any peak holiday dates.
Additional lift pass information
Electronic lift passes are now used in most resorts and may require an additional charge (normally refundable) to be paid in resort. Proof of age must be shown in resort for free children's lift passes. Beginners, both children and adults may not always require a lift pass in many resorts for the first day or two, and are therefore recommended not to pre-book their lift pass, but to arrange locally with our representatives.
Family passes are available in many resorts so please check the relevant grid or ask our Reservations Advisory Team for details.
