Les Arcs Snow Report, 10 Feb 2012

Les Arcs, FranceThere’s 305cm of snow on the top slopes and 170cm at resort level with all lifts and pistes open.

The cold spell is coming to an end in Les Arcs, with milder temperatures on their way. There are light flurries of snow expected throughout the coming week, with a few centimetres expected on Monday night, heading into Tuesday.

With the entire resort open, there are still plenty of areas for all levels of skiing ability. The perfectly groomed pistes heading back into resort are ideal for beginners and those looking to get their ski legs back, while for the more adventurous the Snow Park is constantly being updated with new jumps, rails and an airbag.

Preparations are well under way for Wednesday’s 20th Anniversary celebrations of the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics. Planned events include a relighting of the original Olympic flame, a torchlight descent and fireworks.

Just along in Arc 1800, a Ski cross course has been dug out for the French youth Championships, which take place across next week. Ski cross is an exhilarating spectator sport, and is sure to draw large crowds to Arc 1800 in the afternoons.

Les Arcs Ski School

Les Arcs is an excellent place to learn to ski, with snow-sure beginners' areas within easy reach of all our chalets, and that great 'top-of-the-world' feeling that comes from being up in the mountains from day one, rather than learning down in the valley.

There are also ski and snowboard courses available for all ability levels from early intermediate to advanced, and guides available for off-piste touring.

Families will also find this a convenient resort, and the ski-school makes children of all ages very welcome.

Aprés Ski in Les Arcs

Although not a wild resort for après ski, Les Arc 2000 does offer plenty of lively, friendly bars and cafés for the obligatory vin chaud at the end of skiing.

There are also several trendy discos and some hotels and bars have occasional live music.

The après ski activities available in Les Arcs range from snowmobiling and ice-skating to more relaxing pursuits such as a swim in the Altitude's indoor pool - available free of charge to all Ski Total guests during their ski holiday.

The Skiing in Les Arcs

The ski area of Les Arcs and its connected villages of Vallandry and Peisey Nancroix include some of the smoothest and longest runs in the French Alps, as well as some of the most exciting. Whatever your ski ability, whether you are chasing a speed record, enjoy motorway cruising and pretty tree-lined runs or want to learn on gentle, sunny nursery slopes, Les Arcs has something to offer everyone.

This is a fantastic ski holiday area for intermediates, especially mixed ability groups, as many of the lifts offer alternative routes, so easier or more challenging runs can be selected. Skiing in the trees down to Peisey Nancroix is delightful and it is worth exploring this under-used area for its well groomed, quieter ski slopes

There is much to test the expert skier in Les Arcs. The steepest and deepest powder is generally below the the Aiguille Rouge and in the renowned couloirs of its East Face (go with a guide!) The 7km run to Villaroger involves a spectacular vertical drop of 2000m, and challenging moguls develop on the Comborcières run.

Les Arcs is also a snowboarder's paradise, with a superb fun-park and half-pipe complementing Les Arcs resort's natural terrain.

The Vanoise Express cable-car connects Les Arcs with the further 220kms of wonderful skiing at neighbouring La Plagne - yet another exciting dimension to the simply superb ski area.
