Obergurgl's scenic village

Obergurgl is one of Austria’s most famous, best loved and most sought-after ski resorts, and deservedly so.

Set high at the end of the picturesque Ötz Valley - indeed the highest village in the whole country - the village centre benefits from having no through traffic at all, and the ski area boasts an enviable snow record stretching normally from November right through until May.

The attractive Tyrolean village centre retains its appealing, traditionally relaxed charm and a cosy, intimate feel, yet is big enough to offer an ample range of facilities, and a friendly après-ski atmosphere.

Ski Packs

Pre-bookable Ski Packs

We are pleased to offer you a convenient pre-bookable service for ski/board and boot hire, tuition and lift passes. The big advantages are that everything is arranged for you in advance, prices are guaranteed against currency fluctuation, and you can relax and look forward to a smoother first day in resort.

Your equipment hire and lesson vouchers will be in your Welcome Pack ready for you immediately on arrival, and your lift passes will be delivered to you either on arrival or by breakfast time on your first morning, so you can hit the slopes without delay.

Ski-school and children

Obergurgl works wonderfully well for families, and the children’s kindergarten ski area and ski school meeting point has moved to just 50m from our chalet. Children who have progressed beyond the beginners’ stage, the blue runs of the Gaisberg provide the ideal area to move on to, and wide open slopes and superb snow conditions make for relaxed, enjoyable skiing.

Apres Ski

There is a lively atmosphere at the snow-bars and cafés as skiers finish for the day, and as you would expect in Austria, a choice of traditional après-ski activities to enjoy. ‘Nightlife’ as such is generally quieter, although there are several comfortable bars to choose from in the resort centre and in neighbouring hotels.

Resort Facilities

Ice-skating, curling, snowshoe walks, cleared winter walks, guests’ ski races, weekly night-skiing with a ski show from Obergurgl’s ski instructors, choice of restaurants, small range of shops.

The Skiing

A long-standing favourite with British skiers, the Obergurgl ski area offers fantastically spectacular scenery, a great snow record, beautifully groomed pistes, and a fast, modern lift system. This has been recently further enhanced by the ‘Top Express’ gondola, making it simple to cross to and fro at convenient mid-station level between Obergurgl’s own village slopes and the heights of the Hochgurgl area.

The ski area’s three main parts - Hochgurgl, Festkogl and Hohe Mut - combine to offer an excellent choice of red and blue runs, with the occasional black for those days when you feel like a challenge, and an ideal beginners’ area just behind the village centre. With the great snow at this altitude, expertly prepared, there are also miles of flattering, open cruising runs to enjoy, with a welcoming choice of ‘pit-stops’ along the way!

Obergurgl does not claim to be a ‘macho’ resort for experts, but the half dozen black runs and excellent off-piste possibilities still serve to get the adrenaline flowing, and the top half of the Hohe Mut red run is renowned for its challenging moguls. The snow record here is exceptional, so there is plentiful off-piste to be explored in the company of a local guide, and the more advanced ski school groups also regularly venture off-piste to enjoy the latest snowfall.

The superb on- and off-piste snow conditions also of course make for excellent boarding, and the big plus for all boarders, particularly those less experienced, is the wealth of gondolas and chairlifts, which enable you to cover pretty much the entire area avoiding drag-lifts altogether.
