Lech thoroughly deserves its reputation as one of the very finest ski resorts in Austria, and indeed in Europe.

The village is timelessly picturesque in traditional, Austrian style, and enjoys a perfect location, tucked away in a high, Alpine valley, with an enviably snow-sure record on its high altitude slopes.

Like St Anton, whose fantastic ski area it shares, Lech is one of those very special places any keen skier simply must try.

In a resort whose hotels can be pricey, our Chalet Hotels provide unbeatable value, without compromising on benefits like their own leisure facilities, and cosy bar, all in-house!

Lech Snow Report, 07 Feb 2012

Lech, AustriaDepth of snow on the high point of Lech, the Steinmader is now up to 360cm whilst resort runs have 155cm.

We have stunning sun drenched days for most of this week, though this hasn’t stopped the temperatures plummeting to some pretty cold temperatures. It has consistently been -20c in resort, make sure you wrap up warm! This has meant fantastic snow conditions on the piste, with the powder of the piste still light because of the cold weather. The superb set of runs and ski routes under the Steinmahder chairlift are well worth a try early, especially as they will feel all the warmth of the morning sun. Panoramic views are a photographers dream set against the backdrop of the traditional Austrian village of Lech.

We are expecting a mixture of sun and light cloud over the next few days with temperature rising today to -14 and then to -3c on Wednesday. We should experience some light snow showers later in the week.

Ski Packs

Pre-bookable Ski Packs

We are pleased to offer you a convenient pre-bookable service for ski/board and boot hire, tuition and lift passes. The big advantages are that everything is arranged for you in advance, prices are guaranteed against currency fluctuation, and you can relax and look forward to a smoother first day in resort.

Your equipment hire and lesson vouchers will be in your Welcome Pack ready for you immediately on arrival, and your lift passes will be delivered to you either on arrival or by breakfast time on your first morning, so you can hit the slopes without delay.

Ski school

Instruction is generally excellent, with good English-speaking instructors. Groups are graded into a wide range of levels with lessons at 10 am for 4 hours with a one hour lunch break.

Children aged 3 to 14 are taken in children’s ski-school with optional lunch and supervision provided. The Ski Kindergarten takes children from 3 to 5 years from 9 am to 4 pm with two hours ski-lift and instruction included.

Aprés Ski

There is a surprising variety available here, and Lech by night has a truly wonderful atmosphere, if you can tear yourself away from the cosy, welcoming bar your own 'home' Chalet Hotel! Quench your thirst at the lively Tannbergerhof and Pfefferkorndl après-ski bars.

Later on the night-life is relatively quiet and sophisticated in the elegant hotel bars, with a handful of more active spots, which our resort team will happily point out. A new Leisure Centre has opened offering a huge range of activities from indoor climbing or cycling to bowling and fitness. Our representative will also arrange a small programme of fun activities such as curling, or horse-drawn sligh-rides in Lechs winter wonderland.

The Skiing

The Arlberg can rightly be considered one of the top three ski areas in the world. Huge amounts of varied skiing and unmatched off-piste will suit all standards, whilst good altitude, notoriously heavy snowfalls and the links with two of the three highest resorts in Austria - Zürs and St Christoph - guarantee snowsure slopes right through from December to May.

Locally the skiing connects with Zürs and access is good with six lifts taking skiers up from Lech. Immediately above the village, at Oberlech, the tree-lined runs are excellent for beginners and intermediates - wide, cruisy and flattering, and there is an excellent ‘Boarderland’ snow-park. A little higher, runs are more difficult, with some wonderful wide open off-piste fields - perfect with fresh powder.

From the other side of the resort, cable-cars run up to the Rüfikopf, from where easy runs take you to the wonderful open slopes of Zürs, way above the tree-line.

St Anton, St Christoph and Stuben are all inter-connected on the other half of the Arlberg system, which is easily reached, just a short ski-bus ride away.
